CALLING ALL INTERCESSORS

Some of you have expressed an interest in becoming part of a group called to intercede for the ministries of Klesis. Starting in April, we will form a group for that purpose. If you are feeling the nudge to get involved, or just want more information give us a call.

We envision meeting together to launch the group, and perhaps occasionally throughout the year when necessary. Your commitment will be to pray for concerns that we will send in monthly updates or phone calls.

In our last letter we celebrated that Tncia had come on board "full-time" with Kksis as a Counselor/Spiritual Director. It has clearly been the right move.

While we have been doing inner healing for well over 10 years the Lord has never brought as many people at once as He is presently bringing. Her schedule is plumb filling up! We are seeing women from a number of churches come to work with Tricia, and they are being healed of deep emotional and spiritual wounds. Jesus is releasing the captives and allowing her to be a part of it.

I am not surprised. I have always known Tricia to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Since we first met she has talked of her closeness to Jesus. And in the retreat ministry He has increased her sensitivity, introducing gifts of discernment and knowledge that enable her to walk closely with Him as He ministers to someone's torn and aching heart.

We do not know where He will be taking KIesis, but are confident that a big part of it includes inner healing with women and with men. Increased pressures like we all live under today seem to be exposing sores on the soul that have bled quietly (or not so quietly ministry was right. It also made sense for some), draining life. We have been that within the contractual boundaries given the privilege of helping stem the flow.

"We are seeing women from a number of churches come to work with Tncia, and they are being healed of deep emotional and spiritual wounds. Jesus is releasing the captives and allowing her to be a part of it."

If you have questions about this ministry, or feel that the Lord might be nudging you to expose hidden hurts that have dominated you long enough, give Tricia or Kit a call.

Moving forward with our series on the ministries of Klesls we come to what was its very first ministiy when it formed in 1990:

The Playmaker Profile

First, some history. When Kit ended his career as a jazz drummer in 1980, he was offered the opportunity to work with People Management Incorporated. He was trained as a casewriter and given the task of helping people in the workplace identify their motivated abilities. With that knowledge they could make prudent decisions about job fit.

In 1990, after leaving PMI and spending time listening for God's direction, it became clear that full-time ministry was right. It also made sense that within the contractural boundries I had accepted at PMI, I should use my knowledge of giftedness to help Christians use their gifts.

Soon after deciding, I devised the Playmaker Profile. As with other assessment tools, it identifies what essentially drives people in any activity capturing their interest such as:

  • beating a challenge
  • making a difference
  • creating something new
  • satisfying a need.

From such a focus, Playmaker describes in detail how a person will try to achieve what motivates him or her including:

  • the roles they will take with others
  • the types of people they move toward
  • external settings/conditions which facilitate the use of their gifts
  • the skills they will use
  • the materials they will work with

The Profile itself is derived from an in-depth interview of a person recounting activities he liked doing and felt he did well. We're looking for things that gave life to the person whether in work, hobbies, church, or school activities, etc.

After determining the unique sheep of someone's giftedness, and putting that information it to report form, we sit down and discuss the details of the profile and what they mean. We look at areas of strength and weakness, working toward defining the best direction to take. For most people, this takes three sessions. But, sometimes there are exceptions depending on how much a person needs coaching.

Seen what has given someone pleasure, fulfillment, or a sense of meaning we are able to look into the heart of how got his design them to do the work of cultivating and caring for his creation.

Also, to understand the design of one's gifts is affirming because they signifying that each person has a purpose under God. We have been designed to express our giftedness and in that expression we find joy. When we give the expression of those gifts to the service of our Creator and Lord, we glorify Him because we're doing what we were created to do. We satisfy His will and realize our calling in the process.

When the Klesis Academy is established we will use of plea maker to help young adults discover their gifts when they arrive, use them during the year, and aim them wisely toward their lives work when they leave.

Until then, Klesis will continue to serve Christian men and women with this tool. If your interested in exploring our process, give us a call. We will explain fees, and get you started.

We have been designed to express our giftedness and and an expression we find joy. When we give the expression of those gifts to the service of our Creator and Lord, we glorify Him because we are doing what we were created to do. We satisfy His will and realize ours.

If you spend some time reading about spirituality, or if you pay attention to trends in the church and the world, you'll notice quickly that the concept is not so easy to define. In fact, it can be downright elusive.

Depending on your faith tradition--Roman Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox--you will have particular ideas about what Christian spirituality looks like: what is proper, what is normal, what is trustworthy, etc..

Within each tradition, however, there are a variety of approaches to the spiritual life, making things all the more confusing. Then add to the max counterfeit spirituality is so prevalent in our culture, and it is just easier to play it safe and leave that " spiritual stuff " alone all together.

And Klesis we address these concerns because so much of what we do involves the spiritual life. We do not want to lead people injured air and away from Christ who is the truth. Therefore, we have established some safeguards regarding the practices of Christian spirituality.

They should always:

  1. Acknowledge and glorify Christ as Lord and savior.
  2. Point people to Christ as the " way, the truth, and a life. "
  3. Turn people away from self absorption, sin, and pride.
  4. Lead to humility, godliness, faith, Hope, and love
  5. Result in greater love for, and desire to serve others.
  6. Foster spiritual maturity and wisdom.
  7. Emphasize our utter dependence on God for all spiritual growth.

They should never:

  1. Contradict scriptures.
  2. Focus on methods and techniques as ends in themselves.
  3. Emphasize gaining special knowledge or power.
  4. Glorify person, or type of spiritual practice.
  5. Please God's love and mercy over His call to holiness and obedience.
  6. Downplayed a reality and devastation of human sin and the need for salvation .
  7. Give a person the sense that he or she can in any way control God.
  8. Blur the theological differences between Christianity and other religions.

Because the life of the soul is a gift of God and through prayer, contemplation, listening, and reflection we build an intimate relationship with Jesus there, we must expect that our adversary will attempt to lure us down the wrong path. We need to be vigilant and wise, " testing the spirit " who entice us into spiritual practices that seem right, or feel good, but ultimately denied Christ and feed our selfishness and pride.

Then again, we should not " throw the baby out with the bathwater, quotes by disdaining the inner life of the spirit and avoiding seeking a deep relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit in the soul.

Our job to Klesis remains that of helping believers develop an intimate relationship with Jesus. Spirituality is simply an expression of that relationship as it grows in the soul and is demonstrated in the life of the person being transformed.

I am finding more and more in ministry how many of us struggle with the true meaning of God's special grace given to us. This grace redeems, sanctifies, and ultimately will glorify all who have received the work of the cross into our lives.

We often forget what Paul meant in 2Cor. 5:18 about being recreated in Christ. We were once radically broken and now are called to walk trans, formed and revitalized. We fry to be transfonned and revitalized because we want to believe. But we have not been able to admit to Jesus that we have hidden in the brokenness of our lives -- maybe for years.

We may have learned great coping strategies, but Jesus doesn't want to revitalize and transform our coping skills. He wants to take the brokenness and rebuild our foundation so it has no cracks or walls that keep us from His light of truth and mercy.

I am also finding that He calls His people to be in the Presence of His light. Grace is found first in God. It is given to us; we can't merit it, win it, be good enough. The shame we hold, our failures, our conditional love, or lack of initiative cannot keep us from His grace. We can admit our bankruptcy, and receive His loving initiative toward us. God took action when we were helpless to reconcile us to Himself by the death of His Son. We need to trust that.

In our development as women and men we receive from our pasts how to be, when to give love, and what conditions surround receiving love. When we come to Christ these conditions are still ingrained in our spirits. So we have felt shame, anger, fear, and hurt.

Jesus says that His grace for us is able to bear all that we carry. The Lord calls us in gentle, but truthful ways to let go of all that binds us in a daily process of receiving grace. This process of being sanctified draws us fully toward intimate relationship with Him.

Yet we are cautious because we need to relearn bow to be loved. Jesus embraces us there, giving grace to receive His love, tangibly demonstrating it to us.

He does this continually in my life, and in lives I see around me. We must receive it. In His great goodness is a boundless, never-ending river of divine grace. We find our dignity and freedom there in His Presence. He is wide enough, deep enough, true enough to be the Source of the rivçr of divine grace for us.

He even honors our frailty by waiting for us. He waits for us to respend so He can pull away the boundaries we set that prevent the richness of His grace to be revealed. While we may have just cause for erecting those boundaries, in the light of God¹s love there is no need for them.

May you know the fullness of His grace given to you, and may you allow Him to break down any boundary that hinders the full demonstration of His love toward you. +
